Our core programmatic focus is on the resiliency of military families. Military life presents unique challenges for the family unit and each individual member. That’s why we provide experiences to help navigate military life amidst transfers, deployments, increased child care needs and financial burdens. Programs are offered at no or low cost and require no membership fees.
We work closely with the Department of Defense and installation commands to identify opportunities and augment service areas to help young military families come together, stay together and thrive together.
After School Care
After School Achievement Academy offers daily after-school programming for children in grades K-6 in a learning-focused environment that provides academic support, STEAM activities, and sports.
Youth Resiliency Program
Camp Hero provides an outlet for military youth to share their common experiences and receive academic, recreational, and leadership-based enrichment. Find out more about seasonal camps and schedules.
Parent-Child Learning Playgroups
Operation Little Learners is an interactive early childhood education program for parents and their children to enhance bonds and encourage child development.
The annual Armed Services YMCA Art & Essay Contest gives military children a voice. It also serves as a reminder of the sacrifices military children, service members, and their families make for our country

The Armed Services YMCA San Diego offers grocery support for military families to combat food insecurity and help reduce financial stress, enabling them to focus on mission readiness.
Wounded, Injured & Ill Services
The Armed Services YMCA San Diego provides programs and services to adults & children who are hospitalized and/or receiving active outpatient care at Naval Medical Center San Diego.
Holiday Transportation Assistance
Operation Ride Home provides financial assistance to active duty junior-enlisted military and their families to travel home for the holidays.
Horse of the Sun Ranch is a program of the Armed Services YMCA San Diego that provides an array of equestrian and respite activities. We are principally focused on healing the spirits of military families, at risk youth, and general public.
