San Diego
On September 3rd, we proudly celebrated the groundbreaking of our new Center for Military Families in Murphy Canyon.
The event brought together our community of supporters. Several of our major donors including Congresswoman (D-CA) Sara Jacobs, the Zable Foundation, and the Midway Foundation, joined star pitcher Joe Musgrove and Tom Seidler, Executive Vice President of Community and International Impact for the San Diego PADRES. At the event, Seidler noted: “The partnership we have with the Armed Services YMCA of San Diego goes deep. We’re thrilled to support the new center to help support the needs of military children in our community.”
The Padres Foundation and Musgrove have donated $300,000 to help expand the center’s footprint, including a state-of-the-art playground in Padres colors and a wiffle ball field with Musgrove’s number 44 on the mound. The new construction, which includes two buildings and seven new classrooms, will more than double our capacity for after-school programs and year-round childcare, greatly enhancing the quality of life for military families in the San Diego area.
Musgrove, along with the San Diego Padres mascot, The Swingin’ Friar, brought excitement and fun as they signed autographs and joined the children from the after-school program to celebrate the first shoveling of dirt.
